Build 92 This update turns on chat tabs for everyone, adds custom project icons, makes BoltAI open faster, and fixes several issues with agents and their tools.

New

Chat tabs are now on by default: open different chats in tabs within one window. To go back to one chat per window, turn off "Enable native chat tabs" in Settings > Developer and restart BoltAI.
Custom project icons: give a project an emoji or one of over a thousand symbols, in one of nine colors. Choose it in Project Settings > General, from the project page, or when you create a project. The icon shows in the sidebar and the project header. [ref]
Max reasoning is now available on custom and OpenAI-compatible providers. BoltAI tells you once that your provider may not support it.

Improved

BoltAI shows its main window sooner at launch.
Long model names no longer overflow the model button in the composer. It shows the short name; hover to see the full one.
In a new chat, Tools now follow the agent you pick, and clearing the agent puts your default tools back.

Fixed

Fixed several problems when picking an agent: the agent could fall back to Default Agent until picked a second time, be dropped from a new tab on the first message, or switch on tools it does not have.
Fixed a new chat tab that could not be closed, with the message "This tab is still working or has an unsaved response".
Fixed a project's prompt mode sometimes not syncing to your other devices.
Fixed importing a BoltAI backup dropping a project's default agent, prompt mode and loop settings.

: Yes. BoltAI is a client — we don't bundle AI credits. You bring your own keys for providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, Azure OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, etc., and BoltAI makes it easy to add, encrypt, and switch between them. You can also use your ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions inside BoltAI via the Codex CLI or Claude Code integration.
: BoltAI works with major cloud providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, Azure OpenAI, and Amazon Bedrock, plus local models via Ollama and LM Studio. When you buy a license, you can use that version of BoltAI forever and get 12 months of the Updates & Sync Plan, which includes new features, bug fixes, macOS/iOS compatibility updates, and Cloud Sync + mobile access (with storage based on your tier).

After the first year, the app keeps working locally on your Mac; Cloud Sync and mobile simply pause. Your cloud data becomes read-only for up to 24 months and you can export it at any time. You can renew updates and sync whenever you like at a 40% discount (you pay 60% of the original pre-discount price), and renewal is optional with auto-renew turned off by default.

BoltAI is Bring Your Own Keys (BYOK): you connect your own OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini / Mistral / etc. accounts and pay those providers directly, while BoltAI provides the Mac app and all the pro-level features around it.

: No. Your chats are stored locally on your Mac in a SQLite database. BoltAI never trains on your content, and your requests go directly from the app to the AI provider you configured; by default we don't see your prompts or responses.
: Cloud Sync is optional. If you enable it, your data is encrypted in transit and at rest so you can access your chats, projects, and Agents from multiple devices (Mac and mobile). If you prefer, you can keep everything strictly local and use BoltAI only on your Mac.
